Zatanna Sketch

A study for a commission.  (The final version does not have her conjuring soup, for the record.)

Riyo Chuchi and Vex

Vex is up at vexthecomic.com. New pages go up every Tuesday and Thursday.  If you enjoy it, feel free to spread the word.

Last night’s artcast found me working on a Star Wars Character I had never drawn before.  In this case, the Clone Wars character, Riyo Chuchi. I’m also opening up my schedule a little more for commissions as I’m almost caught up.

(Copic & Prismacolor Markers, and Pitt & Micron artist pens)

Vex release – Tuesday May 4th!

We’re releasing Vex over at www.vexthecomic.com beginning next Tuesday (May 4th, 2010.)

A new page will be up each Tuesday and Thursday.  Head on over to subscribe!

Vex Cover

Danny put the finishing touches on the colors last night.  We’re going to release this graphic novel online, 2 pages a week, beginning (hopefully) next week.  That is if I can get some issues resolved with my hosting provider.  I’ll post a link when the kinks get worked out.

Art chores on the graphic novel = done

This week I finished up the penciling and inking of my graphic novel, Vex.  Danny is finishing up the colors close on my heels.  Now the hard part, publishing.

Will we be better off publishing online or trying the traditional route?  Neither one will produce any income given the current state of the graphic novel/comics industry.  I suppose at this point we’d have a better chance of getting it to a wider audience by publishing online.

Either way, what I do know is this…I’ve got some web design ahead of me in addition to all my other work while I try and get the website for Vex up and running.

One more thing on the plate.

Graphic novel, giveaway, and eBay

I’ve spent the last 5 days finishing the pencils for my graphic novel, Vex.   I finished them this afternoon, and have a few of them left to ink.  This is the reason for my internet silence over the last few days.  Being so close to the end of such a large project makes me a little obsessed.

This week I’m working through some overdue commissions and helping a friend with backgounds.  I’ll get some scans up when I get the chance, but for now I have a few items for sale on my eBay page.

And don’t forget about my art giveaway.

All Hail Megatron

This week’s warm ups are shaping up to be full of Decepticons.

This was inked with a Pentel Brush Pen and inked with Prismacolor/Copic Markers.  (It’s also for sale on eBay .  And remember if you sell Megatron, you might be BREAKING THE LAW.)

Soundwave

Soundwave, Generation one…the way he should be. (He was a Cassette tape player, Billy.  You see, back in the 80s we had magnetic tapes that stored audio…)

I like to imagine that Frenzy was a Cassingle of Madonna’s “Lucky Star”….hence the evil.

Soundwave is also for sale on eBay.

The Golden Age of Comics

The Golden Age of Comics set has been an education.  The 1940s and 50s were full of jungle/cave women/girls,  patriotic heroes determined to bring down the Axis Powers, and radioactive characters born in the wake of the new Atomic Age.

Golden Age comics reflected their decades.  A cheesy, 4-color, and in some cases poorly drawn reflection, but a reflection nonetheless.

For example, South Sea Girl, pictured above, whose audience I can only assume was the entire Pacific Theater. Who was this girl?  She’s obviously of European descent, what is she doing down there? Doesn’t she know the Japanese are trying to kill us with grenades and battleships?

Well, if nothing else she knows how to dress for mayhem.

Another batch of Marvel 70th Anniversary sketch cards

Here’s the last batch of cards for a bit. My favorite one of this batch is Reed Richards at the controls with Doom on the screen. (though I like how the Sentinel turned out too.)
