The Man Who Was Thursday

This is the 2nd piece featuring the characters from G.K. Chesterton’s The Man Who Was Thursday.  If you have never read and wrestled with any Chesterton, you should make some time to do so.

This measures 11 X 17 and was inked with a Pentel Pocket Brush pen…my new favorite toy.

Riyo Chuchi and Vex

Vex is up at vexthecomic.com. New pages go up every Tuesday and Thursday.  If you enjoy it, feel free to spread the word.

Last night’s artcast found me working on a Star Wars Character I had never drawn before.  In this case, the Clone Wars character, Riyo Chuchi. I’m also opening up my schedule a little more for commissions as I’m almost caught up.

(Copic & Prismacolor Markers, and Pitt & Micron artist pens)

All Hail Megatron

This week’s warm ups are shaping up to be full of Decepticons.

This was inked with a Pentel Brush Pen and inked with Prismacolor/Copic Markers.  (It’s also for sale on eBay .  And remember if you sell Megatron, you might be BREAKING THE LAW.)

Soundwave

Soundwave, Generation one…the way he should be. (He was a Cassette tape player, Billy.  You see, back in the 80s we had magnetic tapes that stored audio…)

I like to imagine that Frenzy was a Cassingle of Madonna’s “Lucky Star”….hence the evil.

Soundwave is also for sale on eBay.

Baroness Sketch Card

I was digging through some old files today and came across this Baroness.  What’s unique about it, as with a few other drawings of mine that I’ve seen pop up on the internet lately, is that…I don’t remember drawing it.

I’m realizing that I’ve drawn so much over the last few years that there’s a new category of work in my brain.  That is, things I’ve drawn that I either flew through, got done, and moved on from, or things that I’ve subconsciously decided need to be expunged from the cache of conscious retrieval to make room for other things.

Actually, now that I’ve though for a few minutes, I remember this card sitting on the desk at the studio waiting to be shipped.  But nope, still no recollection of the drawing process.

Psylocke card.

I don’t think I’ve posted this card yet. The Psyloke from earlier in the week was actually a redo, which I was more than happy to do.  It gives me an extra one to sell (this one is going on eBay as of tonight.)

For skin tones I’ve been used Copic colors: Skin white, Pinkish White, Sand White, and Water Lily.  I just replaced the brush tips (which was pretty effortless) on several brushes as over the last year they’ve picked up a little bit of black from the inks. Although, it’s pretty rare that even that black would come off into the page.

This afternoon I ventured into watercolors a little more.  The results were okay, but I still went in with a pen to touch it up.  I’d like to explore a more painted look when I get my time budgeted a little more.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend.

Commissions – Rogue, Gambit, and Psylocke

On the artcast last night I finished up a few sketch card commissions.  I got a lot more done than I thought I would when I started the show. And really, this has been one of the benefits of doing the artcast.

It forces me to keep up with these type of commissions and I tend to get more done at night than I normally would otherwise.

Not to mention I get to meet (via chat anyway) people who enjoy sketch card art.

I’ve tried working on larger images, but I think it’s hard for my camera to pick up details at that large a scale for it to be enjoyable for anyone.  So for now I’ll be sticking to sketch cards.

Graphic Novel, Jungle Girl, Dinosaur

I’ve been buried in my graphic novel since Wednesday. The light is at the end of the tunnel after a year of work, which is pushing me on to work harder.  Last night I saw more of the colors that Danny is doing (he colors up blood surprisingly well.)  This week, I’ve got to pull back a little to work on commissions and get more headway on one or two of the 7 sketch card sets I have sitting on my table at the studio.

I’ll have more sketches up this week, but first here’s a piece I did a couple years ago. I bought some cheap bamboo brushes and thrashed them to pieces doing all the vines.

Deadpool and odds n ends

This is the Deadpool card from last week’s show (click to see a larger view). It’ll be going up on eBay along with a few other cards and some of the sketches from Megacon that were done as warm ups (Chun Li and Spike.)

My artcast is still going every Wednesday night at 7:30 ET.  I may be adding another night in the near future.  It really helps keep me on track with commissions.  Thanks to everyone who’s been stopping by and chatting.

I’m working through several different cards sets at the moment, but I don’t know that I can post any just yet.  And my graphic novel is getting close to being in the very last stages.

More Megacon Sketches

A couple more drawings from Megacon, Spike from Cowboy Bebop and Starscream . I’ve been experimenting with a looser style and a Pentel brush pen.
