Someone stick a fork in me.

I'm done.

At 12:30 today I walked out of the warehouse door for the last time. The last time. Let me type that once more. The. Last. Time.

Now that I'm jobless I can get some work done. I'm looking forward to doing some commissions, but most importantly, getting issue one printed! Maybe a little cleanup on the site.

Usually at work they give a pizza lunch for people who have quit. But the last time we had one (last year, and for an employee that my boss harassed enough for them to quit) my boss said "I'm not giving any more pizza parties...they are an incentive for people to quit."

Yep. So I celebrated by buying myself a sandwich from Chic-fil-A.

Booyah.

March 23, 2004

Working a notice is a time of reflection.  I was just thinking yesterday about my job and I finally arrived at a decent analogy for it.  I was on my way to class (I have 3 hour classes Monday and Tuesday immediately after work) and as I was driving I thought:

"My job is like a really bad 8 hour drive...in a car with no windows."

This is why Mondays and Tuesdays have sucked for the last 2 months in particular.  It's like driving 8 hours to class...then driving 8 hours back for another.  This analogy is also useful for explaining why I get tired and stressed about work...despite some saying, "but, you don't do anything."

True.  I've got my job down to a science...which means plenty of slacking time.  But you don't do much flying in an airplane, or driving an entire day to see your senile aunt who is convinced you're actually the meter maid.  But it's still exhausting.

Next Wednesday my 5 year ride will be over, and I find myself back in the same spot I started out...in school.

  6 days to go.

Not that I'm counting.  Today the TV has been on mute all day.  This means I did not have to listen to Dr. Phil, Maury, Montel, Ambush Makeover, Ryan Seacreast, or that stupid jingle about the electrical company.

Talk about torture.

No, today has been a quiet day.  Although at the moment I'd give real money for a snack.  50 cents to be exactly.  If only I were that rich.

  Okay, announcement time.

*ahem*

Yep, after 5 years...I just quit my job.

Yes it's true.  In two weeks I will be out of the warehouse.  Alas, my story of insanity will come to it's final chapter.  But what does this mean for Philbert?

It means that I'll be finishing up issue one in April and sending it out to the printer.  That's what it means.

I know it's been a long time with no new art.  Part of that is my yearly winter depression...which has been pretty bad this year.  But there is light on the horizon!

Thanks for sticking it out with me.

It's conversations like these during my work day that help me keep my sanity and remind me of what really matters:

rrrring

Me:  Hello?

Marty:  Did you know that if you fire a laser into space, it will just keep traveling until it hits something?

Me:  Yeah, I knew that.

Marty:  So like in Star Wars...all those lasers they fired.  They're just going to keep going.

Me:  Pretty much.

Marty:  So there's this planet out there...and then one day all these lasers just start hitting it.

Me:  Yep.

Marty:  You know, you shouldn't even be able to see the laser, really.

Me:  No, but how boring would that be? Just a bunch of ships flying around at each other with a few randomly exploding.

I hope life is crystal clear to you now.

March 15, 2004

The past month has been ripe with drama.  Things do seem like they're going to slow down though....

...on Wednesday.

In the meantime, I have two three hour classes.  One tonight, one tomorrow night.  Yes, after a full day of work, too.

:sigh:

But on Wednesday, I'll be making a grand announcement.

March 10, 2004

Well, Heroes Con is quickly approaching.  Will Brian get issue 1 done in time?  I'm thinking I absolutely, positively, most assuredly might.

Big changes in the life of Brian soon.  I mean my actual life, not the website of that name that has not been updated in months.  By the way, that part of this site is currently serving as more of an archive.  By archive, I mean "there's only so much time and energy I can put in to updating all the websites I update."

These changes do not involve having children.  Just FYI.

I know that's what you were thinking.

March 5, 2004

This week spring is in the air.  Also in the air, the sound of my co-workers popping bubble wrap.  Unfortunately for me they figured out that it annoys me.  So they keep doing it.

It also annoys my supervisor...so they don't do it as often as they want to.

Right now not one person in my dept is working.  I'm writing this, and everyone else in here is watching Judge Judy.

Can I go home yet?

March 3, 2004

Hey Everyone!  It's been a week or so since I've blogged here. Miss me?  I bet you did!  Who wouldn't?  I'm a likeable guy.

Unless you're Hitler, or a snob.

And those are the ONLY two reason you wouldn't like me.

Unless you really really like GravyBoy.  In which case you're really irritated with me I'm sure.  I'll update as soon as I get the chance.  Really.  Two classes and working full time is kind of time consuming...mostly the working.

I think I'm going to experiment with a way to get the comic up more often.  More info when I figure it all out.
