Have I told you that I hate politics?

I do. Hate it with a passion. Whether we're talking about a national election, international affairs, or whining because your boss is going out to lunch with one employee over another, I detest politics.

I bring this up only because I have noticed a trend in this election year (a particularly heated year, I'm told) for people to talk about politics who have no good justification for doing so other than the reality that they have an audience. This year I have heard the political opinions of entertainers, bloggers, comedians, newscasters and not a few entertainment columnists who have interrupted their normal, informative and/or entertaining offerings in order to provide political rhetoric and opinion (generally regurgitated from the party line of one side or the other).

I think I wouldn't mind people expressing their opinions in these mediums as much if they offered more than a rallying cry for the like-minded to the exclusion of those 'on the other side.' A fair and balanced blog that objectively presented the facts about a candidate or a party may hold my interest if not my passion. Generally, though, I look to my entertainers for entertainment and if I go to a comic book site, I'd rather find less information about the skeletons in the congressional closet and more about comics.

But then, maybe that's what you came here for, too. And maybe it's just late and I'm just cranky.

In the end there's only one expression of your political leanings that really matters anyway - the voting booth.

So vote for Bush, vote for Kerry, vote for Nader, vote for Barbie or Candidate Zero or even Ross Perot - write a blog about it if you want to. Just make sure it's clearly labeled as political so I can make an informed decision about reading it.

These last few days have been gorgeous.  I even managed to go take a walk on the trails that I used to walk during my lunch our.  It's pretty cool to be able to walk them without having to 1) watch the clock to make sure I'm back in an hour and 2) being able to come home and still enjoy the sunlight rather than shut myself back up inside a warehouse.

In other news, you may remember that we mentioned talking with some inkers at HeroesCon in June about inking the next issue of GravyBoy.  We were working with one of them, but unfortunately he had some personal issue come up and isn't going to be able to ink it...so I'll be honing my skills as an inker once again.  Which is okay, really, because I like inking.

As far as when it'll be available, we're still shooting for October.  Cross your fingers.

So, Jessica Alba is slated to be Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four Movie. I'm taking a wait-and-see on that one. There is no doubt in my mind that Jessica can kick butt with the best of them (as seen in the too-short-lived Dark Angel series) and that she's got the chops to play a super-heroine; I just have a problem with it being THIS super-heroine. To me, Jessica Alba is this young, sassy, no-holds-barred kind of strong feminine lead - Elektra, Troia, Catwoman, etc.

Sue has always seemed more... well... more like someone's mother. A light-hearted, cheerful mother at that. Alba has pulled out some tight acting in the past, though - so it's wait-and-see.

I just want this movie to be a good one. Super flicks seem to be coming into their own lately - even garnering their own spoof (a la Scary Movie), Superhero!. It's an exciting time to be into comics and I'd hate to see the potential wasted on products that are less than what a comic book movie should be... awe-inspiring.

Soon Marty will have a Dragon*Con review up.  Hold your breath.

Issue 1 is still on schedule for October.  We're may use a new printer since we found what seems to be a good deal.  We'll have to test it out anyway, hopefully it'll be as good as it sounds.

I guess I need to start thinking about the cover and what I want to put on there.  I'm thinking a red background on this one...

Atlanta was a fun little journey into the surreal. Up until the last minute, we weren't sure whether we were going to make it at all due to various factors (not the least of which was a little gust of wind by the name of Frances) that seemed to be coalescing to ensure we did not make the journey to the land of sun and sci-fi. In the end, though, we made the long drive and were initiated into the world of the Dragon*Con. We'll put a full review up in the next few days, but I will say that we spent 14 hours on Saturday treading the pathways between the sponsoring hotels - dodging vampires, robots, Muppets and Storm Troopers along the way - and we still didn't see it all.  It was an experience I won't soon forget - at least until I can get the review up, I hope.

It goes to show, though - if you live in your own little world long enough, someone's bound to pay you to let them in for a peek.

Well, we're off to Atlanta to check out DragonCon.  Unfortunately it looks like we'll only be down for one day, which by the sound of things won't be really enough time to take it all in.  We'll be handing out some free mini comic previews of GravyBoy Issue 0 and maybe a few comics.  Speaking of that, I discovered today that it's about time to reprint Issue 0...just in time to print Issue 1.  Fortunately, I think the first book has gotten pretty close to breaking even. Well, that's not really true since we'll have to take that money and turn right around use that money to reprint...and then sink our own money again into printing Issue 1.  Labors of Love...gotta...well...love them.

See you on Monday!
